Your views are just your own

A great anecdote from Gary Younge, the Guardian columnist, at a recent talk he gave about ‘finding your voice as a writer’. The more senior you are, he said, the more likely you are to consider your views to be universal...

At an internal meeting to discuss future newspaper content, a high-up colleague said: ‘I love Jamie Oliver. I think we should do a piece on him.’ The following week, this had morphed into: ‘Britain loves Jamie Oliver. We really should do a piece on him.’

Several weeks later, the piece made it into the paper, eventual article title: ‘Why we all love Jamie Oliver.’

...a filter bubble expanding to contain the whole world.
